March - Dynamic Nunchaku - Saturday 8th March 10am to 12Noon Click Here To Reserve The nunchaku was once an instrument used as a bit for horses and was later put to use as a weapon. The nunchaku was constructed of two hardwood sticks which were securely connected by rope braided from horses’ tails (today the sticks are tied with rope or chain). because of its innocent appearance the nunchaku could easily be mistaken for a toy or harmless bundle of sticks. Master Blinston, students, family & friends from Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy would like to sincerely congratulate Thomas Reece who recently made the grade of Black Belt 2nd Dan, Thomas aged 13 began his martial arts journey with Chief Instructor Master Andrew Blinston at the age of 6, back in May 2017. Thomas quickly developing a keen interest in the Korean martial arts, he joined the black belt leadership training, and goals were set for black belt and beyond. With the continuous support from his parents, Thomas has engaged in private and group lessons, clearly dedicated to his martial arts training he has committed to attending 2 to 3 lessons each week. Thomas is a keen listener, attentive thinker and can process all the martial arts disciplines to a consistently high standard. It was a great pleasure for Master Blinston to award Thomas his 2nd Dan, after completing the personal development course and black belt graduation demonstration. Students of Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy provided an Open Day experience to the community of Retford at the Exchange Street Martial Arts & Leadership Academy.
Master Blinston and team provided the opportunity for the public to visit the full-time martial arts school to meet the Master Instructor and senior students, watch a series of demonstrations and take part in the complimentary taster lessons.
The team also provided an Introductory to their full-time martial arts school with a demonstration in the award-winning Kings Park.
Has the students warmed up Master Blinston with 44 years of martial arts knowledge gave his introduction along with a brief history of the Korean martial arts.
It is more than kicking and striking……….
The master explained his teaching methods places an emphasis on learning skills that are taught not just to help in the martial arts lessons, but to help in children’s school education, adult working environments’ and socially in everyday life.
Developing structure, honouring rules, focusing on health and mental wellbeing, martial arts at Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy also teaches confidence building, understanding courtesy and respect towards parents, respecting their peers and others in society.
Students that participate in martial at the Retford based academy and attended the Charter Day event ranged from 4 to 75 years and have trained with Master Blinston for many years learning, practising, and demonstrating their traditional martial arts, sports combat, Leadership curriculum, technical skills, and self Defence.
If you were unable to attend the Charter Day event this year than Master Blinston has extended the opportunity throughout the month of May for children, adults, and families to take a complimentary lesson at the academy or participate in the Charter Day 1-month Introductory course.

Students were really swept off their feet, they were taught defence moves through grips, blocks, re-strain techniques, take downs and the art of deception. they studied the movements carefully and helping them master their self-defence, increased self-awareness, control, and disciplines, a brilliant confidence booster. Summer graduation brought the best out of the students on Saturday here at Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy.
New beginners were fantastic and clearly one could see that the time and effort had been put in before the graduation day.
A full academy with spectators, family and friends, saw their loved one successfully graduate to their next belt grade. Congratulations to Harvey, who was presented with an award for student of the day.
Black Belt Leadership recommendations were also presented and the day was topped off with Mr Stefanski being awarded his 2nd Dan certification by Master Andrew Blinston.

This time next year some of these students will be Black Belt 1st Dan, 2nd Dan even 3rd Dan. They all will have become more confident.

Hip, Hip, Hooray! it’s graduation day. Big shout out and congratulations for the latest group of students who have achieved their next coloured belt, students who recently joined Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy, all eagerly waited for their results and certification from Master Blinston - chief instructor.
The Saturday morning event was full of cheers and praises when 40 students successfully passed with flying colours. All basic disciplines of the Korean martial arts were covered in graduation along with terminology and symbolisation. Family and friends attended the presentation of belts and certificates at the full-time professional martial arts academy situated on Exchange Street in Retford.

Fun Martial Arts Seminar in Retford
Saturday brought around another martial arts event at Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy Retford. One of our fantastic, specialised seminars.” The art of the Nunchaku”. Using safe practice of the nunchaku and guidance from Master Andrew Blinston, Chief instructor. Students were encouraged after learning the basic skills and safety tips to practice and improvise in the art of freestyle, creating their own unique and diverse pattern. Freestyle nunchaku is a modern style of performance art using nunchaku as a visual tool, rather than as a weapon.
Our next level in training is “The Art of demonstrating the Glow in the Dark Nunchaku”.
Brief description of the nunchaku was explained by Master Blinston and its original origins. Nunchaku is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks (traditionally made of wood), connected to each other at their ends by a short metal chain or a rope. A person who has practiced using this weapon is referred to in Japanese as “Nunchakuka”.
This lively and positive fun seminar enjoyed by young and old. One for all the family to get involved in, left student’s practicing over the weekend and demonstrating their skills in class. A few years ago a bloke in his late 40’s wandered into a white building on a street he had never been on before, he had given up playing professional Rugby League in his thirties and had done very little since. He was nearly 18 stone, very very unfit, had very little interest in any physical activity and being honest was probably about to become a health risk. He had no real interest in martial arts but thought it might be ok for his son. In the first two months of his training he actually thought that there wasn’t one bone in his body that didn’t hurt.

Our Journey with Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy started 5 years ago when Lynx Academy was recommended to us by our son’s childminder as the best place for him to gain confidence he was lacking. Kristian, 4 at the time, a very shy boy, that wouldn't talk to his friends at pre-school, started training, with me and my wife watching him class after class. After just a few weeks we've noticed changes, he was becoming more confident, happy to demonstrate the skills he learned, focused and listening to instructions of his Master. A year later I decided to join in and train alongside Kristian, another year later my wife joined to train together as a family. Coming through the door of Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy was one of the best decisions we have made in our lives.
Training with Master Blinston is a life changing experience. Our Academy is not just about kicking and punching, it's about changing lifestyle for better, gaining leadership skills. Since we started, Kristian has become a happy child, one of the best grading students in his class at school, having loads of friends, I have started successful business, we're all fit and healthy. We can't imagine our lives without Martial Arts. There is no better place to train than Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy. I’d had an interest in Martial Arts for a while and looking for a new challenge. This is when I was introduced to Master Andrew Blinston and Lynx Black Belt Leadership Academy. I immediately liked the feel of the academy; "It wasn’t just a room where a group ran, but a whole martial arts experience"
I was very apprehensive and nervous when I first started, but the friendly, respectful, inclusive atmosphere soon made me relax and start to enjoy my Martial Arts. There has been so much to learn and work towards physically and mentally. I’ve loved having so many new challenges and having a great work out too! I have always been included and encouraged to join in demonstrations from a white belt, up to leading demonstrations as a Scholarship Instructor. My oldest son showed an interest and he decided to start his own Martial Arts journey. To be able to train along side him and see how he has progressed and grown within the Academy is second to none

Absolutely loved the Stretch N Flex Seminar, time went by so quickly and I felt like I had a full workout. Not only did we learn lots of stretching techniques but also the reason behind them and how easily some could be done at home. I have a feeling we only scratched the surface, but the benefits to future training will speak for themselves. I would recommend this seminar to anyone wanting to improve flexibility and core strength, just be prepared to feel it the next day.
